On the Road to College with Betsy Woolf – Occidental College

Occidental College

I spent Leap Day on a return trip to the bucolic campus of Occidental College in the Eagle Rock section of Los Angeles, where the atmosphere is intellectual and students are politically and socially aware and active. Students here are as comfortable in the urban environment of a suburban section of L.A. as they are studying around the world. In fact, approximately 3/4 of them study abroad and in domestic programs in places like Washington, D.C. and at the United Nations. And when movies are filmed on campus – it does happen – two lucky media arts and culture students get to shadow the crew. It seems easy to make friends at Oxy, where diversity is championed and where small groups of first year students live together based on their choices of cultural studies seminars.
